Baking cookies is so much fun, especially when they are tasty and healthy. I came up with this idea for Sultana Bran Cookies on a quiet Sunday morning. I saw a box of cereal and some sultanas in my pantry and thought, why not mix them into a yummy snack? These cookies are now one of my favorites, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

Sultana Bran is a breakfast cereal by Kellogg’s made with whole wheat flakes and sultanas, perfect for adding crunch and natural sweetness to your cookies.

The great thing about these cookies is that they use such basic ingredients you’ll probably already have at home. The Sultana Bran cereal gives a great crunch, while the sultanas add sweet, fruity flavour. You can also make them your own with chocolate chips, nuts, or a little cinnamon. They are not too sweet, so are perfect for a breakfast or afternoon snack with your tea.

The best part is how easy they are to make. In less than 30 minutes, your kitchen will smell amazing, and you’ll have a batch of golden cookies ready to eat. Even if you’re new to baking, this recipe is simple and works every time. Plus, it’s a good way to use up that box of Sultana Bran in your cupboard.

Ingredients of Easy Sultana Bran Cookies

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven at 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy removal of the cookies after baking.

  2. In a mixing bowl, add butter and brown sugar; mix them well until light and fluffy.

  3. Add honey and vanilla extract into the creamed mixture, combining everything well.

  4. In other bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix mixture until smooth.

  5. Now add the Sultana Bran cereal and raisins into the mixture. You can also add in some chopped walnuts or almonds for extra crunch.

  6. Using a tablespoon, take spoon-sized portions onto the lined baking tray. Lightly press them down so they flatten as they don't spread out much while baking.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown. Cool for a few minutes in the tray, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:
1. Can I use regular bran flakes instead of Sultana Bran?

Yes, you can substitute regular bran flakes, but the texture and flavor will be slightly different. Sultana Bran adds a subtle sweetness with the dried sultanas, so you might want to add a bit of extra sugar or honey to maintain the sweetness.

2. Can I make these cookies gluten-free?

To make these cookies gluten-free, use certified gluten-free oats and a gluten-free flour blend in place of the whole wheat flour. Also, ensure that your cereal is gluten-free.

3. Can I reduce the sugar in this recipe?

Absolutely. If you prefer a cookie that is not too sweet, you can decrease the sugar amount. You may also replace part of the sugar with a natural sweetener like stevia or monk fruit; however, keep in mind it may change the texture a little.

5. Are these cookies vegan?

Yes, you can take this to veganism as follows: substitute vegan butter for the butter and use maple syrup instead of honey. Otherwise, this is already egg-free, which is amazing to consider in a vegan context.

6. How to store these cookies?

You can store your eggless sultana bran cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for a week, or, if required, freeze them for a month.

7. Can I make these cookies dairy-free?

To make these cookies dairy-free, it's just a matter of replacing butter with a dairy-free alternative such as coconut oil or plant-based margarine.
